WildGuessr is a browser game in which you guess a secret animal, plant, fungus or stone. The server picks it and tells you one thing about it for free, so you have something to start from. It is a Czech game, made by one developer from Czechia.
Then you ask about its group, order, family, habitat, diet, size, leaves, flowers, cap, hardness, colour or other traits and get a yes or a no, or you recognise it from a photo. When you know enough, you name it; you have three name guesses.
How the points work
Points are continuous, never just right or wrong. A solved mystery gives 1000 points times 0.93 for each clue you asked (the free one does not count) and times 0.6 for each wrong name.
An unsolved game still gives up to 150 points for the share of your questions that hit.
Ways to play
The daily challenge is the same for everybody, with one attempt a day, as a clue board and as a photo quiz, each with its own animal, plant, fungus or stone. You can share your result as squares that never give the answer away.
Solo play is an Expedition. You start with 100 health, each round costs health according to how many clues you needed, they get harder and every fifth is a boss, and you pick animals, plants, fungi, stones or all mixed. Practice has three difficulties, a photo quiz and no limits.
With friends you race up to ten people on the same animal, each on their own board, and whoever solves it sooner earns more points. In ranked duels you play one against one, five animals with 90 seconds each, for a rating and a league.
You can also play on Discord, right in a voice channel.
Where the facts come from
The list is ours: each animal's diet, size, activity and home were written and checked by hand, and the traits of plants, fungi and stones follow field guides and handbooks, cross-checked with Wikidata. Classification, names in eight languages and the conservation status come from Wikidata (CC0), photos from Wikimedia Commons. Nothing here is advice on eating or foraging: it is a game, not a field guide.
Every photo shows its author and licence. The full list of sources is on the data sources page.
PriceGuessr
PriceGuessr runs on the same site with the same account. In it you guess the real prices of things from around the world, from a beer in Dublin to the rent on a flat in London.

Hi, I'm Vojtěch "Memousek" Kalný. I build PriceGuessr and WildGuessr on my own, in the evenings and at weekends.
By day I'm a senior front-end developer. I've spent about eight years building websites for large clients at Czech companies. I'm quite focused on the things users never see but always notice: speed, accessibility, and being findable by Google and AI assistants. That's why the game works with screen readers and without a mouse. Still, what I enjoy most is the creative part, like tuning colours and building components.
I'm a fan of games like GeoGuessr and wanted to make one a little more my own way.
The game is free and has no ads. If something breaks or you have an idea, message me on Discord, Instagram or LinkedIn.
By day he tests software at a Prague company. In the evenings he breaks PriceGuessr before you get the chance.
He's the team's punching bag, its coffee carrier and, reportedly, a playboy in the making. If something works, part of the credit is his. If it doesn't, he probably knows already.
