Guess the real price of everyday things around the world
PriceGuessr is a free price-guessing game in your browser. Each round shows a photo of a real product and where its price was recorded, from a beer in Dublin to a flat in London. You guess the price, and the closer you are, the more points you get.
How it works
See the product
A photo, the country and the city where the price was recorded. You guess in your own currency.
Make your guess
Move the slider or type a price. The game converts it with the exchange rate from the day of the price.
See how close you were
The real price is revealed and you score up to 5,000 points. Near misses still score well.
Ways to play
Daily challenge
The same five products from five countries for everybody, with one attempt a day. You can share your result as coloured squares that give nothing away.
Expedition
A solo run with 100 health. Every miss costs health, the products get harder and every fifth round is a boss. Practice mode has no limits.
With friends
Create a lobby, send the six-character code and play live with up to ten people. When nobody is around, add computer players to practise.
Ranked duels
One against one over ten rounds, for a rating and leagues from Bronze to PriceGod.
Fair scoring
Every round is worth up to 5,000 points. Closer is always better; nothing is simply right or wrong.
What counts is how many percent you are off, not how many dollars. A guess 20% too high scores the same as one 20% too low, and a coffee guessed a dollar off hurts more than a flat guessed a dollar off.
A guess within about 1% earns the full 5,000. About 10% off is worth roughly 3,400 points, 25% off about 2,050, and double the real price about 310.
Real data, credited
Prices come from open data: Open Prices by Open Food Facts (ODbL), official statistics from 10 countries (ČSÚ, BLS, ONS…), The Economist's Big Mac index and the EU's Weekly Oil Bulletin for fuel. The full list is on the data sources page.
Exchange rates are the European Central Bank's for the day of the price. Every product photo is credited next to the image.
Frequently asked questions
What is PriceGuessr?
PriceGuessr, also written Price Guessr or Price Guesser, is a free browser game in which you guess the real price of everyday things around the world. Each round shows a photo of a product and the country or city where the price was recorded, and you are scored by how close your guess is.
How does scoring work?
You get up to 5,000 points a round, depending on how many percent you are off. Within about 1% you get all 5,000, at 10% off about 3,400, at 25% off about 2,050, and twice the real price is worth about 310.
Is it free, and do I need an account?
It is free and you can start playing straight away as an anonymous player. Sign in with Discord or Google if you want to keep your progress and profile across devices.
Where do the prices come from?
From open data: Open Prices (Open Food Facts), official statistics from 10 countries, The Economist's Big Mac index and the EU's Weekly Oil Bulletin. Every source and photo credit is listed on the data sources page.
How does the daily challenge work?
Everybody gets the same five products from five different countries each day and has one attempt. The challenge resets at midnight Prague time. You can share your result as emoji squares that do not reveal any prices.
Can I play with friends or against the computer?
Yes. Create a lobby, send the six-character code and play live with up to ten people. The host can add computer players of three difficulties to practise; games with bots do not count towards statistics or rankings. Ranked duels are one against one.
Which currency do I guess in?
Your own. The game picks it from your browser and converts it with the European Central Bank's exchange rate from the day the price was recorded, so your guess is compared fairly with the real price.
How recent are the prices?
Every product shows the year its price was recorded, and the data is refreshed weekly from its sources. Prices are snapshots of real observations, not what a shop charges today.
Does it work on my phone?
Yes, it is designed for phones first. You can install it to your home screen, and it also runs as an Activity inside Discord voice channels.
Which languages are available?
English, Czech, Slovak, German, Polish, Ukrainian, Spanish and French. The game follows your browser language and you can switch it in the settings.
Is PriceGuessr like GeoGuessr?
In spirit, yes: GeoGuessr asks you to guess a place, PriceGuessr asks you to guess a price. Both reward being close rather than exactly right. Here you see a photo of a real product and where its price was recorded, then guess what it cost.
